A rare Opportunity to Make a Difference

rare is a remarkable 900+ acre nature reserve situated at the confluence of the Grand and Speed Rivers in the Region of Waterloo. Larger than New York’s Central Park, it is home to hundreds of species of flora and fauna, including over 220 birds and over 500 plant species and trees that are over 240 years old.
MacPherson shares rare’s vision of offering community members a natural, protected area for generations to come. As it states on the rare website:
There are many reasons to live and work in Southern Ontario… one of those reasons should be that, here, children are given unprecedented opportunities, including the opportunity to live a healthy lifestyle, with access to natural areas and are offered education programs that help create the next generation of environmentally-literate citizens.
And because MacPherson shares this vision, since 2013, MacPherson has made a donation for every home sold with the goal of raising tens of thousands of dollars for rare. The funds raised will help support the ongoing management and protection of this reserve as well as the maintenance and upkeep of North House, rare’s unique onsite research and educational centre.
